Shaykh Muhammad Al-Ninowy

Shaykh Muhammad bin Yahya al-Ninowy is a Syrian-born American Islamic scholar, theologian, and medical doctor.

Shaykh al-Ninowy began his studies under his father, As-Sayyed Yahya ibn Muhammad, and many of the scholars in Aleppo memorising the Qur’an and acquiring knowledge and certificates to teach in Islamic sciences, including theology, jurisprudence, Hadith and Sufism.

He is the Founding Director of Madina Institute, Atlanta, Georgia, with campuses ifrom the US to Malaysia.

Dr. Al-Ninowy is considered to be a Muhaddith; a scholar of Hadith sciences. He has authored books in Usul, Creed, Hadith, and Sufi sciences. Al-Ninowy traces his lineage back to the Prophet Muhammad. He has been a pioneer working on grass root levels to bring back unconditional compassion and love as the central themes of religion and has been the forerunner promoting non-violence among all people and religions worldwide. Al-Ninowy also holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois, and a doctor of medicine degree.

We were honoured to host Shaykh Al-Ninowy at Sufi Festival 2022, and are delighted that he will be returning to Sufi Festival 2025 to share more of his insights into the wisdom of Sufi poetry and the Sufi tradition, and to read from his Book of Love.
